A New Chapter for Pointe Hardware & Lumber
Honoring Our History. Reimagining Our Future.
Dear Friends, Neighbors, and Valued Customers,
Every great community institution eventually reaches a moment when honoring its history
requires the courage to reimagine its future.
For more than 74 years, Pointe Hardware & Lumber has proudly served the Grosse Pointes and
neighboring communities by adapting to the changing needs of homeowners, families,
contractors, and local businesses. Today, we're taking another important step in that journey.
After months of thoughtful planning and careful evaluation, we have made the difficult decision
to begin transitioning our Lumber Department and Workshop. This process is already underway
and will conclude on August 15, 2026, when these departments will officially close.
One thing we want to make absolutely clear: Pointe Hardware & Lumber is not closing. We are
evolving.
Sometimes the best way to preserve something meaningful isn't to keep doing what you've
always done—it's to have the courage to evolve so it can continue serving future generations.
This decision isn't about doing less—it's about focusing on what we can do better.
Over the next six months, we'll transform our business into Pointe General & Hardware—a
neighborhood general store that builds on the trusted service you've always known while
introducing thoughtfully curated products, fresh ideas, and an experience that better reflects the
way our community lives today.
We envision a place where neighbors and visitors alike discover something unexpected, families
feel welcome, and shopping locally remains an enjoyable part of life both within and beyond the
Grosse Pointes. Rather than trying to be everything to everyone, we're focusing on building on
the trusted hardware essentials we've always provided—enhancing and improving that
foundation—while introducing thoughtfully curated products such as home goods, seasonal
items, locally sourced offerings, gifts, and everyday conveniences, along with a welcoming space
for families, including a dedicated kids area designed to make visits enjoyable for all ages.
The decision to transition our Lumber Department and Workshop reflects that vision. Today's
marketplace has made it increasingly difficult for an independent neighborhood hardware store
to compete in the lumber business and operate a traditional workshop. Rather than continuing to
invest in areas that no longer align with our future, we've chosen to focus our time, energy, and
resources where we believe we can provide the greatest value to our customers.
Our Lumber Department and Workshop will remain accessible while existing inventory is sold
through, after which those departments will conclude operations.
What isn't changing is our commitment to the people who have supported us for generations.
We'll continue serving homeowners, contractors, families, and businesses with the personal
service, trusted advice, and relationships that have always defined Pointe Hardware & Lumber.
We'll continue supporting our community and working every day to earn your trust.
For more than seven decades, Pointe Hardware has never been defined by the products on its
shelves—it has been defined by the people who walk through its doors. As we look ahead, that
will never change.
Thank you to our customers, employees, neighbors, contractors, community partners, and friends
for your continued trust and support. Because of you, Pointe Hardware's story continues.
This isn't the end of Pointe Hardware & Lumber. It's the beginning of an exciting new chapter,
and we hope you'll be part of it.
With gratitude,
Waref & Danielle
